To accompany the novel Night by Elie Wiesel, students are researching and creating presentations on non-Jewish groups and victims persecuted during the Holocaust. Although Jews were the main targeted group, hundreds of thousands of lives were destroyed because of the Nazi regime. Many of these groups did not receive acknowledgment of their suffering until years after 1945.

Last Friday, for football day, first grade students and teachers read about the history of the Super Bowl. Students dressed as football players, cheerleaders, or fans. Students made predictions of who would win the Super Bowl and did some opinion writing about the best team and player. The class created a graph to see which team they were rooting for: Kansas City Chiefs had 11 votes and the San Francisco 49ers had 7 votes. Students worked on reading and writing words around the room and even designed a jersey with a mascot. The day ended with yummy stadium food such as hot dogs, chips and cotton candy!
