Pre-K students recently learned about spiders. They learned that they can be helpful and many things that we use are made from the silk that they spin.

English sophomores tackled moral dilemma scenarios today, facing choices where every path led to real repercussions. Each decision took them onto unique paths, mirroring themes in their current read “Into Thin Air” by Jon Krakauer, which recounts the 1996 Mt. Everest disaster. Students honed their critical thinking skills by making informed decisions under pressure - just like climbers facing life-or-death challenges.

Drop-Off Procedures Thank you for your cooperation in making our new drop-off procedures a smooth and safe process! Just a few reminders: Exit RIGHT Only onto Tenney Street – Dr. Brooks will be out directing traffic to ensure a right turn only. Attempting to turn left slows down the line and poses a safety risk to our crossing staff. Pull Forward in the DROP ZONE (Green Signs) – Please pull as far forward as possible in the drop zone when dropping off your child. Staff will be there to direct you. This helps multiple cars unload students simultaneously, making the process faster for everyone. Thank you for helping us INCREASE safety and REDUCE stress during drop-off!

Freshman participated in a thought-provoking gallery walk today for our “Conflict is Inevitable” unit, focusing on the essential question: How does silence impact conflict? Students examined powerful images around the room, made notes, and then connected their observations to Holocaust Survivor Elie Wiesel’s Nobel Peace Prize speech “Hope, Despair, Memory.” The activity challenged them to reflect deeply on the role of silence in conflict and history.

This week, our first-grade classrooms had the special honor of welcoming Staff Sgt. Calab Franklin and Staff Sgt. Arrick Juarez. The visit was an exciting part of our Veterans Day learning activities, where students explored the various branches of the military and read non-fiction books about Veterans Day. Our students had the unique opportunity to see and try on some real military equipment, learning about the purpose of each item and how it is used in the field. We extend a heartfelt thank you to both Staff Sgt. Franklin and Staff Sgt. Juarez for their time and service, and for helping our students gain a deeper appreciation for veterans.

The core value for the month of October was self-discipline:exercising control over one's actions & impulses, working diligently towards their goals. From those who were nominated, the staff voted for Jayden Magnussen. Jayden was nominated by Mr. Trill & Mr. Stoner. The WHS Athletic Department received several nominations which resulted in Noah Feltner being chosen for the Positive Student-Athlete of the Month! "Noah Feltner has always displayed a positive attitude & leads in the way we want all our Geese/Titan athletes to lead. He participates actively in class discussions, does well academically, & is the consummate teammate in cross country, on the basketball court, & on the track. Noah consistently encourages teammates & pushes his own limits to achievement beyond physical limitations. Noah Feltner exemplifies the traits of a student-athlete leader of Wethersfield High School."
