Some of our high school art students just wrapped up an incredible Pop Art Self-Portrait Project—and the results are AMAZING! Blending art and technology, students used their Chromebooks to capture reference photos and explored AI-generated comic-style inspiration. After studying Roy Lichtenstein and the key features of Pop Art—bold outlines, bright colors, Ben-Day dots, and expressive emotion—they used the grid method to carefully transfer their images with accuracy and detail. Each portrait reflects personal creativity while building patience, confidence, and artistic skill. We are so proud of their focus, growth, and willingness to try something new!

Seventh-grade Health students have been learning about emotional awareness and strategies for maintaining positive mental and emotional health. This week’s lessons focused specifically on stress—what it is, how it affects the body and mind, and healthy ways to manage it. To help students experience and reflect on stress in a controlled environment, they participated in an interactive dice game. One student rolled the dice while another raced to write numbers to 100, and two additional students observed and waited to rotate in. The competitive and time-sensitive nature of the activity naturally created moments of stress, providing a meaningful opportunity for students to recognize their reactions and discuss effective coping strategies. Students were highly engaged and appreciated the hands-on example that brought the concept of stress to life.

Eighth-grade ELA students recently engaged in the Question Formulation Technique (QFT) and an alphabet brainstorming activity to activate and build background knowledge about the Holocaust as they prepare to read Maus I. Working collaboratively, students generated and refined their own questions, sparking thoughtful discussion and deeper inquiry into this significant historical event.
