Due to reports of county roads refreezing and slick in town roads freezing over, Wethersfield Schools will now be taking an emergency snow day. This is not an E-learning day. Afternoon activities will be decided at a later time.

We will run a 2-hour late start schedule today. Main roads are clear, open, and being salted. There will be no morning Pre-K or early bird class. Breakfast will not be served today. Be safe.

The VFW Post 8078 and Auxiliary recently announced that Kayleigh Hampton placed 3rd in the District 8 Patriot's Pen Essay competition! Kayleigh, a 7th grader at Wethersfield Jr. High, received a certificate, a medal and $50. Pictured with Kayleigh from left to right are District 8 VFW Commander Ken Morey, VFW Department of IL Commander Brett Nila, Kayleigh Hampton, Department of IL VFW Auxiliary President Lynn Smith and District 8 VFW Auxiliary President Paula DeDoncker. Kayleigh’s family was also present at the banquet to celebrate her accomplishment.

Today's freezing rain caused us to use the last of the district's E-Learning days for this calendar year. Any days after today are traditional snow days that will be made up at the end of the school year. It looks as though there is more freezing rain, sleet, and possible snow moving into the area overnight and just prior to commutes tomorrow. Please be prepared for a range of possibilities tomorrow that may include: a regular school day, a 2-hour late start, or a snow day (not e-learning). Be safe.

Due to freezing rain and current weather, we will have an E-learning day today as travel is currently not advised.

Congratulations to the Varsity Lady Geese for their OT victory and 3rd Place trophy in the LTC Tournament today!! The girls beat Princeville 52-49 at West Central! Way to make us proud ladies!

Fifth grade students in Mrs. Hagaman's Music class, learned the song “Follow the Drinking Gourd.” They learned about the hidden code in the song. The song was a message to the slaves about how and when to escape to freedom.

Today, 8th grade students in Mrs. Townsend's Civics class got to participate in an activity where they experienced weaknesses of the Articles of Confederation. For example, Congress couldn't require the states to pay taxes and the US didn't have a standing army. All states had one vote and to change the Articles, it had to be a unanimous decision. This cup activity represents how the individual states fought to stand alone, but in the end, you are stronger when you stand together!

Today will be a regular scheduled day. Bundle up for your morning commutes. Roads were clear on my road check.

Today, Trooper Wilson talked to 7th and 8th grade students about cell phone safety. Parents, ask your child what they learned today!
